I welcome you to the fourth incarnation of the Automotive Air Conditioning Information Forum!
This forum stems from the original air conditioning forum we launched nearly twenty years ago. While it's hard to believe how the time has passed, we certainly remember the confusion and lack of information that was available at a time when refrigerant R12 was being phased out to be replaced by a new chemical, R134a.
When I look back at those days, I vividly remember the community that formed just for the sake of helping others keep their cool. Through the years, the forum has been a great place to meet many like-minded individuals and learn a lot along the way.
Today, our biggest challenge is keeping the forums open and free of Spam. While real human traffic has decreased over the years, as one would expect, fake user traffic, with the intention of spreading Spam, has consistently increased. Several mass attacks later, and attempts to delete a deluge of fake users has left the old forum database full of errors.
A new forum with new software was our best option for keeping things in check. Our new system has better spam detection and prevention measures. While it is too early to know how well this will work, we will be able to measure the effectiveness and hopefully make adjustments along the way. Better ability to delete fake user accounts and prevent bad submissions will also keep things running smoother for the volunteer moderators, who sadly, probably spend more time deleting fictitious user accounts than answering legitimate a/c related questions.
And speaking of A/C questions, if you plan contributing at the new forum, you will be asked to register as a new user account. We are sorry for this inconvenience, since we are not able to import any existing user data from the old forum. We plan on leaving the old forum online for the foreseeable future, but, have placed it into a read-only mode.
Please have a look around at the new board and feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
You can e-mail me at: [email protected] -- or -- Leave a message on my voice mail at: 317-625-3846.
Thank you everyone for your continued support, and thank you for being an important part of the Automotive Air Conditioning Information Forum!
