Honda CR-V Compressor Replacement Advice Needed

    Hello,

The compressor on my 2002 Honda CR-V failed. I diagnosed that the clutch coil is open. This unit that failed is already an aftermarket unit, so I'm pretty sure I'm not looking at catastrophic black-death failure.

The cost of an OEM replacement compressor is too rich for my blood. I tried to find one made by Denso, Matsushita or Senden with no luck.

My question to you guys is.. what do you like for an aftermarket replacement? I've looked all over and realize I need some guidance here.

    Thank you!

Well, if your sure it is the clutch coil, the cheapest way out is to remove the clutch and replace the coil. What makes you think it is the coil?

Wouldn't be both clutch coil open AND a black-death. If the coil, swap over the AC clutch from the original compressor, if it's the same.

Can you turn the shaft of this compressor? If so it might be fine so as already said just the coil. At the age it's likely another compressor totally than what it was made with if just a clutch, whole or coil isn't available try for used.

You may need a special puller to remove it not sure you can with it in the car nor if this can be used without a compressor as just a pulley (idler) for the set up? Some can vary so IDK.

Failure of coil has been rare but happened a few times bets are prolonged areas of excessive heat take them out more than where I am?
